Writing on a cold winter evening, I am wearing a chunky wool jumper knitted for me by a good friend. It is familiar, comfortable, and reliable, the kind of garment that earns its place as the favourite jumper. I am reminded what well-made clothing is really for. Not to be saved or admired from a distance, but to be lived in. That thought sits at the heart of Salt & Co Studio.
Founded by Eloise Salter, a trained bespoke tailor from Savile Row, Salt & Co Studio brings traditional tailoring expertise into a slower, more conscious approach to everyday clothing. Working from her studio in Derbyshire, Eloise creates garments that prioritise durability, function, and longevity, offering a considered alternative to fast, trend-led fashion.
Every piece is handmade in-house, shaped by skilled pattern cutting and an understanding of how clothing should move and feel on the body. These are garments designed to support daily life, comfortable to wear, easy to layer, and adaptable from day to evening without feeling overworked or overstated. There is a clarity to the designs, coming from purpose rather than excess.
Materials are chosen with equal care. Natural fabrics are used throughout the collection, selected for their performance as much as their aesthetic. Richly toned Scottish waxed cotton features prominently, valued for its strength, weather resistance, and ability to soften and improve with age. The focus is always on creating clothing that will stand up to regular wear, developing character as it ages.
Versatility plays a central role in the studio’s design process. Each piece is intended to work effortlessly alongside an existing wardrobe, pairing naturally with garments already owned. For Eloise, clothing should earn its place through use, becoming familiar and trusted over time rather than reserved for occasional wear.
“I design clothing that feels good on the body and is easy to live in,” Eloise explains “Pieces that pair simply with what you already own and fit naturally into everyday life.” It is a philosophy that feels both grounded and increasingly relevant, particularly as more people seek to build wardrobes based on longevity rather than constant replacement.
Salt & Co Studio stands out for its confidence and commitment to craft. This is clothing shaped by skill, experience, and a clear understanding of how garments are actually worn. There is no urgency or spectacle here, only thoughtful design and careful making. Pieces intended to become favourites, reached for often, and worn into the rhythm of everyday life.
