Opening a bottle of wine that you know has made its way into the cellars of Michelin-awarded restaurants, you taste it differently. Whitewolfe Estates, a small producer in the Kits Coty region of Kent’s North Downs, has released a new trio box set of English Chardonnays. These are the same wines poured in places such as Bentley’s Oyster Bar in London, and the Three Chimneys on Skye. The set includes their three expressions, each made in small batches by Clare Whitehead and Luke Wolfe, who met while studying oenology and later acquired a small vineyard together. Their approach focuses on nurturing the fruit of this emerging region, allowing the character of Kits Coty to speak for itself.
Two of the wines included in the box, KC1 and KC2, have already sold out individually. The box set offers a rare chance to enjoy some of the last remaining bottles. Each plays a different role at the table, and I like how naturally they align with moments across the season.
KC1
Elegant with layers of citrus. Ideal with seafood, especially something light on Christmas Eve.
KC2
Rich, bold, with lemon curd notes and savoury depth. The one to open with the main Christmas meal, roast turkey or chicken.
KC3
Fresh and vibrant, with subtle stone fruit. Easy to pour for gatherings, especially alongside English charcuterie and antipasti.
