SEASONAL NOTES

Crafting Fragments of a Shared Journey

Editorial Feature

An inspiring debut collection by Rhan Jewellery

It seems fitting that the first story of 2026 is a celebration of new beginnings and personal growth.

I am often drawn to jewellery that carries meaning beyond decoration. Pieces that feel symbolic and personal. Rhan Jewellery is one of those brands. Created by designer Saffia, Rhan is guided by the idea that jewellery can act as a point of connection, linking people through shared experience while still holding deep individual significance.

Every piece carries a fragment of the same beginning

‘Awaken’ is the first collection from Rhan Jewellery. Each piece is handcrafted in precious metals and designed to reflect moments of change and reflection. Available now, the collection feels like a considered first step, setting out Saffia’s design language with clarity and care.

At the centre of the collection is a single original artwork, created by Saffia using a traditional hammering technique to build texture and depth. Rather than designing each piece separately, she began with one complete image. That image was then carefully divided into smaller sections, with each section becoming its own piece of jewellery. In this way, each earring or pendant carries a fragment of the same story, connected by origin yet unique in form.

Sustainability sits naturally within Rhan Jewellery’s process. The silver used is reclaimed from recycled NHS X-rays, while the gold is fairmined and fairtrade. Saffia works from her Midlands-based workshop, with pieces cast by a small independent metal casting business close by. This local approach reduces emissions and supports neighbouring craftspeople, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to responsible making.

The inspiration behind ‘Awaken’ comes from lived experience, both Saffia’s own and those of people close to her. While each story is different, they share a common thread of transition and renewal. One particularly influential moment came from a ‘mama blessing’ ceremony held on an Iron Age hillfort, now a peaceful forest in Sussex. That setting helped shape the imagery of the Awaken collection, bringing together ideas of emergence, grounding, and the quiet strength found in nature.

What feels especially compelling about ‘Awaken’ is its confidence as a debut. These are not pieces trying to explain themselves or the inspiration behind their texture. They are simply a story written in silver and crafted into something new.

It’s a delight to share with you a designer at the very beginning of her journey. Saffia’s work already shows a clear sense of direction, rooted in process, place, and thoughtful symbolism. The ‘Awaken’ story feels like the start of a body of work that will continue to grow with time, experience, and refinement.
